A map viewer illustrates the statistics by dynamic thematic maps. Furthermore, a diagram viewer is provided. For executing both applets, Java must be enabled. Java 1.2 is sufficient, i.e. Sun's JRE is typically required.
Launching the applets and the communication between the web pages and the applets need JavaScript. Furthermore, the presented tables allow a dynamic sorting of the table content. Also this feature requires that JavaScript be enabled.
This web site is tested by and optimized for Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox 2. The (transitional) XHTML 1.0 standard is observed and valid CSS is used.

The 'per Capital' values are calculated using the population at the given date of information according to the CIA World Factbook of the respective year. For the 'per Square km' values, the current area figures given on the Land Area page are used.

Most charts are based on data from the CIA World Factbook.
Further population figures are provided by City Population.
